Spring Fashion trends- The show of the midriff

With every season, comes a new trend. The evolution of the way clothes are designed today is very evident. Fashion of course changes over time. But today, it also drastically varies over a number of seasons. Whether for better or for worse, with each season passing by, new trends in clothing emerge and wearing something from just a year ago is taboo. Whereas last year this season saw a showing off legs via short suits and pretty dresses, this year, bearing the midriff seems to be the catch. In fact, the leg trend is mostly wearing huge girl pants, with fabrics that flow and wrap around the leg in different ways. Since bearing midriffs seems to be the new black, crop tops are expected to rule the market.  The trend of Spring Fashion this year lets women flaunt their abs like never before. From being paired with trousers to skirts to shorts, cropped tops are everywhere. Also, going in line with this trend, being sporty is the way to go. Sport sandals are in this season in a big way. Funky tops with fringes or logos also seem to be coming in big this time of the year.

Where color is concerned, black, orange, pink and other neutral tones are ready to set the hue. This fits in well with the fashion trends of tea length skirts and knife pleats, which are all said to be back this spring.

Even though a bare midriff looks like the most common trend, there are a few designers who haven’t followed suit and given their own touch to women’s apparel this season, one of them being Nicole Millers.

This American designer, who opened her first shop in 1986 0n Madison Avenue, known for classic and sexy designs, which generally flatter the body, has gone against the norm. Her clothes are generally very skillfully draped over a woman’s body, which reflects her signature feminine style. This season as well, she hasn’t given up on it.  Instead of capitalizing on the crop trend, Nicole Millers has played with prints. Along with a variety of prints, many of her designs have made use of the floral print, which is very well associated with the spring season.  Also, contrary to the trend of man pants, most of Nicole’s lowers were skin fitting, allowing showcase of the shape of the legs. They included ripped or torn jeans, along with a variety of other one pieces.

High heels were also prominent on her ramp shows. True to her style, she went feminine and colorful this spring, using different prints. But in general, the tone and trend of Spring Fashion this season has remained very neutral, with a focus on voluminous silhouettes, changing the trend to tea length skirts, which weren’t very often used before. And the biggest trend is of course the bearing the midriff. Especially with more cultures and more groups of people accepting this trend and identifying with it, it looks like it is here to stay.

It will be interesting to see what changes the London Fashion Week, set to happen mid February bring about spring fashion trends and styles.
